Stress, anxiety, depression, and worry can be overwhelming.
Life is hard enough and when you're dealing with depression or anxiety, it can feel darn near hopeless. I'm Katherine Stromska, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and I offer supportive therapy that can get you through it. I'm trained to work with a variety of issues, but there are a few areas that are near and dear to my heart.
For women
We have all been guilty at one time or another of being a "people pleaser," putting your needs aside in favor of helping others. While a little can be manageable, a lot can leave you feeling irritated, unsatisfied, unseen, and resentful. Unfortunately it’s all too common to be discouraged from speaking up lest you be seen as rocking the boat or judged as selfish. You end up dismissing your feelings or downplaying your hurt simply to keep the peace. Through our work together, I will help you recognize your self-worth and inner strength so you can feel confident setting boundaries and creating the amazing life you deserve.
For young adults
You've left the nest of your family home or school and are trying to make it in the world all on your own. The combination of managing work, relationships, and life in general can leave you feeling lost and anxious rather than confident and capable. The world you’re stepping into is one unfamiliar to other generations: the job market is unpredictable, online dating is a crap-shoot, and social media sets impossible standards for where you should be at this point in your life. I'll help you figure out your unique identity and values as an adult, understand the role your past plays in your current life, and learn skills to build resiliency to handle whatever comes your way. .
For adults facing communication and relationship problems
You might feel able to speak your mind freely in other areas of your life, but somehow find yourself getting tripped up when it comes to having open, honest talks with your partner about what you want and need from them. Together we can work on learning skills and creating a shared understanding of issues, concerns, and goals to ensure that what you and your partner are creating is the relationship you both desire.
For pregnant, postpartum, and new parents
Changes in hormones, odd sleeping patterns, and the plethora of unknowns that come along with labor and caring for a new baby can have a tremendous impact on your mental health. It may surprise you to learn that postpartum depression and anxiety symptoms are so incredibly common. In fact, current research says they affect 15-20% of birthing parents at some point within the first year after giving birth. That’s about 1 in 5 postpartum parents! If you're experiencing any depression or anxiety symptoms during or following pregnancy, you are in the right place. I'll serve as a guide, sounding board, and grounding force to help you find your way through parenthood with joy, self-compassion, and self-confidence.
